Why does Hailo use cobots?
Hailo uses modern cobot technology to ensure cost-efficient production and consolidate its leading market position in the long term. In view of the shortage of skilled workers, the company delegates physically demanding and repetitive tasks to machines. This enables employees to take on more interesting tasks with higher added value. The cobots now support the team in both the final assembly of ladders and the loading of punching machines in waste collector production.
What challenges had to be overcome?
A change in standards made it necessary to provide each stepladder with operating instructions. As production space is very limited, Hailo sought an extremely compact automation solution that could be integrated into the existing lines without bulky protective fences. In addition, it was necessary to relieve the strain on employees when handling painted sheet metal cylinders in order to minimize health risks caused by repetitive movements and not to compromise the surface quality during the process.

In collaboration with a certified partner, Hailo developed customized applications in which cobots act as natural team members.
Detection & Recording
A UR5 cobot detects the approaching ladder on the conveyor belt and picks up a brochure from the magazine using a vacuum gripper.
Precise glue application
The cobot guides the instructions past a hot glue gun to dispense the adhesive precisely.
Fixation on the product
The instructions are attached directly to a step of the ladder with light pressure.
machine loading
In another area, a UR10 and a UR10e precisely feed painted sheet metal cylinders to the punching machines.
