Why does Junior use heat sinks in cobots?

As a manufacturer of high-quality precision components and aluminum heat sinks, the company serves a wide range of industries and batch sizes. To keep production flexible and free staff from repetitive tasks, Junior relies on a comprehensive cobot strategy. More than 40 collaborative robots now ensure smooth processes when loading CNC milling machines and palletizing sawing machines. The goal is efficient manufacturing that can respond quickly to customer-specific requirements.

What challenges had to be overcome?

The wide variety of components requires constant adjustments and short setup times in production. Without automation, flexibility reached its limits. At the same time, management wanted to relieve the team of monotonous loading processes and give employees the opportunity to actively shape the production process with their own automation ideas. The task was to find a solution that was both easy to program and reliable in three-shift operation.

What does Universal Robots' solution look like?

What began as a spontaneous experiment developed within three years into a systematically scaled automation solution throughout the entire CNC machining center.

1
Building in-house expertise

The machine operators completed online training courses from UR Academy and now program the cobots independently.

2
Development of standard cells

Junior developed its own mobile cobot cells that can be flexibly moved to wherever support is needed.

3
3D simulation

Complex applications are digitally simulated prior to implementation to ensure maximum planning reliability.

4
Autonomous maintenance

Specific service training enables the team to perform hardware diagnostics and repairs largely independently.

Why the UR fleet was the ideal choice for Junior heat sinks

A wide range of models for every purpose

From the UR5e for simple handling to the UR30 for heavy loads on Chiron CNC milling machines, Universal Robots offers the right model for every station.

Enormous range

With a reach of 1,750 mm, the UR20, for example, is ideal for autonomously unloading sawing machines and stacking components in a process-reliable manner.

High reliability

The cobots are characterized by their durability, which minimizes downtime in high-frequency manufacturing.

Precise automation for the highest quality standards

Through consistent automation of machine loading, Junior Kühlkörper was able to shorten cycle times while increasing process stability. The e-series from Universal Robots offers the necessary precision to guarantee consistently high component quality even with varying batch sizes. Since the cobots take over the monotonous tasks, skilled workers can concentrate more intensively on monitoring product quality and optimizing complex manufacturing processes.

Cobots have completely changed our everyday lives. We used to do a lot of manual loading—now we simply teach the task to a cobot. We are much more flexible, and it's actually fun too.
