Injection molding machine interface IMMI
The IMMI interface (Injection Molding Machine Interface) enables the safe, standard-compliant integration of a Universal Robot into an injection molding machine. It manages all safety-critical signals between the machine and the robot and ensures that the cobot may only intervene when the machine status allows it. IMMI thus meets the basic requirements of Universal Robots' official injection molding guidelines and is the central component for reliable automation of removal and insertion processes in injection molding.
Description
The IMMI interface ensures that a Universal Robots cobot can work safely and reliably with an injection molding machine. It monitors all safety-related conditions of the machine and provides the appropriate signals to the robot. This means that the cobot always knows whether the tool is open, closed, or locked, and whether it is safe to move into the tool area.
At the same time, the injection molding machine receives clear feedback on where the robot is located and whether the area is clear for tool movements. This allows removal and insertion processes to be precisely synchronized with the machine cycle: the tool opens, clearance is given, the cobot removes the part, reports "area clear" – and the machine can continue working immediately.
The IMMI facilitates integration, especially in existing systems, as no major adjustments to the machine control system are necessary. It increases process reliability, improves repeatability, and enables stable automation of injection molding cells, regardless of machine type or manufacturer.
